Spoilt for Choice - Assault Frigates

Every race has three types of Assault frigates. Those ships are excellent pvp allrounder because they can use a perfect combination of tank and damage. When you are looking for a gankboats instead you should consider Interceptors, or something in between are Versatile Frigates.

Amarr has fine armor tanks and they can constantly hit targets at any range. Caldari are good at tanking with shields. When fitted with missiles/rockets they can hit targets at any range too, while with blaster or rail they can be exploited, but in exchange they can do much more damage. Gallente is focusing on damage with blasters, rails and drones, in exchange those ships are not as good armor tanks than the Amarr equivalents. Last but not least are the Minmatar assault frigates, which are not as good as shield tanks then the Caldari equivalents, but in exchange they have more speed. AFs can easy tank a cruiser.

All assault frigates are unique, because every assault frigate has at least one fitting to shine with. On top have tech2 assault frigates even more resistance and more shield or armor buffer, but in exchange they get less speed and most T2 AFs relay on a MWD and this can be exploited. All active armor tanks have a lack of capacity and this can be exploited with a neutralizer too. Big volleys or high constant damage (like Pulse Lasers) works best against active shield tanks.

Tech1 Assault Frigates

The King of active Shield tanking.
The Breacher is a tough ship, since the game balancing.
This ship has no weakness when fitted right, in my opinion.
A MASB works well on this ship
and it can run even longer with an small cap booster.
Dual MASB is quite common too.
I have also heard of fittings with additional AAR,
to bridge reloading of the MASB.

I tested one loadout and already fall in love
with the flying scrap heap.

The King of active Armor tanking.
My most adventures I had with an Incursus.
This ship can do the highest theoretical damage
and it has the best active armor tank,
compared with all T1 AFs.

Common way to fit this ship is with Blasters and an AAR.

Some variants fit a Cap Booster instead of range control
and an additional tech2 armor repair,
and I would use a Mwd in combination with dual repair.

King of passive armor tanking.
The Punisher is a hell of an assault ship
but it lacks on range control and that its weakness only.
Worst case would be to fight an enemy and he escapes.
In exchange it has the best resilience of all tech1 frigates.
I love this ship because many people think
they can outmaneuver the Punisher.

I made an analysis about me flying the Punisher.
The final loadout you can find HERE.
